NYCC Workshop Presentations at the Leadership Institute:
High School English Language Arts: Targeting Achievement through Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment (October 30, 2006)
The Adolescent Literacy team helped participants examine how the New York State ELA Regents Exam aligns with the New York State ELA standards.
There was also a focus on standards-based lesson planning.
Beyond the Grade Book: Connecting Assessments and Classroom Practice (December 7, 2006)
Workshop participants learned how to connect assessments to classroom practice. First, they reviewed the four types of assessments:
screening, diagnostic, formative (progress-monitoring), and summative. Then they were introduced to curriculum-based measurements
that could be used as formative assessments. Participants learned how to create these measures, graph the results, evaluate progress,
and use the results to modify instruction.
Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners: Differentiated Instruction in Today's High School English Class (February 8, 2007)
The Adolescent Literacy team reviewed the basics of differentiated instruction.
Putting It All Together: Lessons Learned and Implications for the Classroom (April 19, 2007)
