Who We Work With
New York State Education Department
The eLearning team and New York State Education Department (NYSED) mutually work to integrate technology across the Department in order to support the improvement of teaching and learning. The team also supports NYSED as they communicate technology options to Regional Networks.
The eLearning team facilitates stakeholder sessions within NYSED to:
- Discuss potential NYSED roles and responsibilities
- Develop an inventory of NYSED-based or NYSED-funded technology applications impacting teaching and learning
- Identify potential gaps in technology-based support and/or services.
These sessions contribute to the development of a five-strand work process which includes:
- Analyzing how resources for educational technology are disseminated and used within NYSED, its Regional Networks, and local school districts.
- Building NYSED’s knowledge base about what works by examining how other states successfully develop, disseminate, and support educational technology.
- Identifying the definition of education technology and the leadership role of NYSED.
- Collaborating with NYSED to create a statewide technology plan that improves technology use in instruction.
- Supporting NYSED as they communicate technology options to Regional Networks.
New York State Learning Standards Review Initiative
As part of NYCC's work with NYSED Learning Standards Review Initiative, the eLearning Team is gathering information in order to prepare an overview of the format and organization of technology use and learning standards as they exist in other states. Each state's set of technology standards and level of implementation will be reviewed in search of common formats that have been found to be of high quality, clarity and to be user friendly for educators, students and parents.
Information regarding the clarity, specificity and content of technology standards from other states are being gathered and synthesized to include a:
- description of each state's technology standards documents (where they exist), including its format/organization, and technology use within grade levels
-
listing of and number of standards-based related documents
the state has published, referencing for each document:
· Intended audience
· Grade level organization
· Specificity of expectations/performance
· Benchmarks
· Exemplars of proficiency
· Glossary
· Inclusion of Scope and Sequence
· Sample lessons or suggested activities
