Statewide System of Support

Who We Work With

The Statewide System of Support team seeks to access national resources that will assist New York State in the implementation of its system of district and school support. For this purpose the team maintains ongoing contact with the U.S. Department of Education’s Content Centers.

Center on Innovation and Improvement

The New York Comprehensive Center (NYCC) liaison works with the Center on Innovation and Improvement (CII) to closely examine the topic of state systems of support. NYCC and CII bring together leaders from multiple states to discuss their statewide systems of support and learn from one another. At the technical assistance retreat Restructuring under NCLB: What Works When?, the NYCC, in collaboration with CII and the Texas Comprehensive Center (TXCC), convened New York and Texas state leaders to examine the role of state education agencies (SEAs) in the restructuring process and research-based strategies for restructuring.

National High School Center

The Statewide Systems of Support team maintains monthly contact with the National High School Center, and serves as the access point for research on high school education for New York State Education Department.

Identification of Evidenced-Based Practices in Support of School Improvement
The Statewide Systems of Support team works with the New York State Education Department Office of School Improvement to design a system for identifying, documenting and disseminating promising practices that support improvement in districts and schools.

This collaboration supports:

  1. The development of a learning community of state and regional agencies, networks and groups involved in district and school improvement. This community shares successful support techniques and works to implement them in districts and schools
  2. The expectation that state funded networks regularly assess the impact of their practice on schools and districts
  3. A series of forums (electronic and interpersonal) where network staff can learn from each other in order to increase the effectiveness of their work
  4. Adjustment of policy and practice to increase overall effectiveness of NYSED’s support system
  5. Research and development of successful practices as a permanent feature of the NYSED statewide system of support.

Chapter 57 and the Distinguished Educator Program

The NYCC Statewide Systems of Support team reviewed Chapter 57 of the Laws of 2007, to define their initiative agenda. In this way, the initiative supports NYSED in implementing the provisions of Chapter 57 including the distinguished educator program.
