As the roles of students, educators, schools, and districts evolve in response to the demands of the 21st century, so does the potential of educational technology to support these evolving roles with new forms of communication, collaboration, and learning. This evolution offers a unique opportunity for state departments of education to provide vision and leadership. The goal of the NYCC Educational Technology Team is to partner with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to strengthen and support their leadership and build their capacity to make informed policy and implementation decisions in the arena of educational technology.
The NYCC Educational Technology Team pursues this goal in several ways:
- Providing research, information, and resources related to specific topics in educational technology
- Examining and presenting state-level policies and best practices from across the United States and internationally
- Facilitating conversations within NYSED and among key New York State stakeholders and external advisors through face-to-face meetings, public outreach forums, expert panels, and technology-supported environments
Overall, these actions support the development, dissemination, and implementation of the New York State Board of Regents Statewide Learning Technology Plan and Race to the Top initiatives.
The work of the Educational Technology Team is closely aligned with national and state legislation related to school improvement, standards, 21st century learning, and Internet safety.
